Opening of Keukenhof flower exhibition starts yearly flower season in Holland

Today the famous Keukenhof flower park opens its doors to the public again.

Yesterday, the official opening was performed by HM Queen Beatrix, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Keukenhof.

It will be open from today until May 21.

The flower park attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world every year. This year less tourists are expected, due to the economic downturn.

The park is a show case for the Dutch flower growing industry, intended to show the finest examples of tulips and other flower bulbs.

The Keukenhof is located in the bulb-growing area between Amsterdam and The Hague. In and around the town of Lisse, the route to the Keukenhof is clearly signposted everywhere. You will find the Keukenhof at Stationsweg 166a in Lisse.

Going there yourself by public transport has been made a bit easier this year. The bus company Connexxion now has a direct connection to the Keukenhof from Schiphol Airport, The Hague and Leiden.
There is no direct connection from Amsterdam, but it is easy to go to Leiden or the airport by train, and switch there to one of the shuttle buses to the Keukenhof.
More info is on the Keukenhof.com website.

From Amsterdam, many companies organize excursions to the Keukenhof.
More information about these companies is here.

Keukenhof is located as number 8 on this map.
