Today is the opening of the new building for the Amsterdam Film Museum.
Together with the move of the Filmmuseum to a new building, the organization changes its name. It is from now on the EYE Filminstituut Nederland.
The new building, along the IJ river north of the Central Station in Amsterdam, is a real eye-catcher (see picture below). The building is designed by the architect couple Delugan-Meissl.
Due to changes that were made in the interior, without the permission of the architects, the arcitects decided to boycot the official opening. The official opening is tonight, in the presence of Queen Beatrix.
The EYE Filminstituut's main business is maintaining and showing a large collection of old movies. The new building has 4 cinema halls, a cafe-restaurant, and an exhibition room.
The building is reachable by the ferry called 'Buiksloterweg', that goes up and down the IJ day and night (for free). It is in easy walking distance from the Amsterdam Central Station.
More info is on our own EYE Filminsituut page.
