Police tough on alcohol abuse on Queensday in Amsterdam

Amsterdam has announced it will fine people on Queensday, in case of public intoxication.

Queensday (April 30) is a huge street party, especially in Amsterdam. Queensday in Amsterdam attracts about half a million visitors each year, amongst whom many tourists from abroad.

In the past, various public order problems were caused by too much alcohol. Last year, the ambulances were extremely busy with people who had drunk too much.

The city has announced it will be tough on public drunkenness.
Fines for public intoxication are up to EUR 70.
