Amsterdam and Rotterdam have together started a campaign to increase awareness for terrorist threats of public transport users.
The 2 cities decided to cooperate in the campaign, which specifically targets travellers the bus, tram and metro system.
The reason for the campaign are the terrorist attacks in London and Madrid, which were also targeted against public transport. The Netherlands also took part in the war in Iraq, and have been mentioned as a possible target. So far this has not happened and authorities have indicated there is no immediate threat.
In the campaign the public is asked to be generally aware, and specifically to warn public transport staff (or the police) if they see unattended luggage.
The campaign will last a few months.
