The Dutch Railways have started a test project to provide tv and (wireless) in the train.
Starting today, the intercity trains between Haarlem and Maastricht (major stops at Amsterdam, Utrecht, 's Hertogenbosch, Eindhoven, Roermond, Sittard) will have tv screens broadcasting news and sports items and train information. The broadcasts are without sound, for the moment. Sound is perhaps added later, when it is clear how this can be done without disturbing passengers.
Part of the test is wireless internet.
The Dutch Railways say it is their ambition to provide up-to-date information and entertainment in trains. Later it will be decided whether and how tv and wireless internet will continue to be provided.
The test will last 5 months.
