Today 19th edition of Amsterdam Gay Pride Canal Parade

Today (August 2) is the most important event of the Amsterdam Gay Pride Week, the Canal Parade.

The parade is a long line of 80 decorated boats, each with their own theme. The parade follows the route along the entire Prinsengracht (starting at the West-side of the centre), then from Prinsengracht to the river Amstel, along City Hall, then onto Zwanenburgwal, then to the Oudeschans canal, and it ends in the Oosterdok.
The parade starts at about 2pm and ends around 5pm.

This year there will be a Moroccan and a Jewish boat (sailing next to each other to symbolize tolerance), and there will be an American boat (yes, with the Statue of Liberty).

To commemorate the victims of flight MH17, there will be two empty white boats, that precede the other boats, 15 minutes apart.

Tomorrow (August 3) is the closing party, from 1 pm to 10pm, at Rembrandtplein.

More information is on the Amsterdam Pride website.
