The famous Dutch tv showmaster and entertainer Jos Brink died at the age of 65. He died of cancer.
Jos Brink was very famous in the Netherlands, as a showmaster, but also as entertainer, musical actor, writer (he wrote 40 books) and as pastor.
He hosted several tv shows in the past decades on Dutch television, that drew millions of viewers, sometimes more than half the entire population of the country. He was a pastor in church De Duif (a church along the Prinsengracht canal).
He was also well-known as a publicly gay person. Gay websites applaud him as someone who did a lot for the acceptance of gays and lesbians in Holland. He was married to Frank Sanders, with whom he worked together for various shows.
One of Jos Brink's most famous tv moments was the kiss that he gave(then) Queen Juliana, during a tv show that he hosted, on the occassion of her 70th birthday, in 1979. Kissing the Queen is completely outside the official protocol, so it caused quite a debate in the country.
Brink will lie in state in Theatre Carré, one of the most famous theatres in Amsterdam, on Thursday August 23, 9-11 am. From the theatre he will be brought to the cemetery Nieuwe Oosterbegraafplaats where he will be buried on the same day. From 3 to 4 pm there will be a commemoration at the cemetery.
The burial is a publicly accessible event, the express wish of Jos Brink.
