Canal Festival (Grachtenfestival) opened

Yesterday, the yearly Canal Festival was officially opened. Concert locations are not only in the canal area, but the Prinsengracht Concert is still the grand finale.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the festival. What started out as an open air concert on pontoons floating in the Prinsengracht canal, has expanded to a week long music festival, with this year some 160 concerts.
The concerts used to be in and around canal houses in the centre, but this year there are also various locations in the Eastern Docklands. Buildings along the IJ (the water North and East of Central Station) such as the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, the Passengers Terminal, club Panama, the new public library, Mövenpick Hotel seem to dominate the list of locations this year.

The grand finale is still the Prinsengracht Concert, on Saturday August 18, in front of the Pulitzer Hotel near the Westerkerk, starting at 8 pm (location).
For a good place to view the concert, it is advisable to be there early (it gets really busy).
