Severe snowfall in Amsterdam - flight delays and reduced train service expected

An official weather warning has been issued for the Netherlands. Up to 10 centimeter (4 inch) of snow is expected today.

The Dutch railways have announced that they will operate less trains after the morning rush hour.

Schiphol airport expects that flights might be delayed (see their website for more information.

Traffic problems are also expected during the snowfall, particularly later in the afternoon.

The snow is expected to reach the Amsterdam area by 11am.

Update 8pm: the weather warning is not in effect any more. The snowfall was not as heavy as expected, but on Schiphol airport many flights were cancelled or delayed.
