Saskia van Uylenburgh

Saskia van Uylenburgh

Saskia van Uylenburgh (1612-1642) is mainly known as the wife of the famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn.

She was the big love in Rembrandt's life, and she gave him one son who survived (Titus). Saskia is portrayed on several of Rembrandt's more important paintings.

She lies buried in the Oude Kerk (Old Church), where every year on March 9, 8.39 AM, when the first sun rays exactly touch her grave, a special breakfast is held where everyone named Saskia is invited.
