Sail 2005, the grand event with tall ships that takes places in Amsterdam from August 17 to 22, has been officially opened.
In the presence of the Mayor (Mr Job Cohen) and Elderman Frits Huffnagel, the year of Sail 2005 was officially opened. The marine fregat 'Hr. Ms. Karel Doorman' sailed through a long ribbon of flags, accommpanied by music played by the Oriental Student Brass band.
Sail 2005 is a 5 day long show of tall ships and other old boats, in the harbour of Amsterdam. Every day there will be special events and firework in the evening.
Previous editions of Sail have attracted hundreds of thousands of spectators.
