Rotterdam second city to abolish tourist tax

The city of Rotterdam has decided to cancel the tourist tax.

Tourist tax is a tax levied by cities for hotel and other accommodation.

Last week Amersfoort was the first city in the Netherlands to abolish the tourist tax, now followed by Rotterdam. Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam, and like many other cities it is trying to get more visitors.

With the measure, Amersfoort and Rotterdam hope to draw more tourists.

Amsterdam charges 5% tourist tax to accommodation providers.
