Princes park (nearly) for free in Amsterdam

The princes Maurits, Bernhard junior, Pieter-Christiaan and Floris have received a special parking permit, normally intended for care workers.

The permit applies to the whole of Amsterdam, and can normally only be acquired by emergency workers and medical staff.

The 4 princes are the sons of Princess Margriet, a sister of Queen Beatrix. They all live in Amsterdam. Also the princes' wives have received a general permit.

The permits cost E 40 per month. On-street parking in Amsterdam can normally cost up to EUR 4.- per hour

The government has said the permits are necessary 'for safety reasons'. By giving them a permit, the 'number of activities on the street' remains limited, thus reducing the safety risks.
