Amsterdam's newest concert venue will be opened on January 20, by mayor Job Cohen. The Orgelpark is to become a permanent stage for organ music.
The Orgelpark (literally 'Organ Park') will be located in the recently restored Parkkerk (church), near the Vondelpark.
The Orgelpark has 3 big organs, and a new, large organ is being made and will be installed in 2009.
About 100 activities will be organized every season, with classical music, but also jazz and improvised music.
The opening on January 20 features a festive programme, with actors Ward Weemhoff and Harald Austbø ‘in conversation’ with the Orgelpark’s three organs, with a script by Jan Veldman and music from Vincent van Warmerdam.
Every Wednesday afternoon at 12.30 there will so-called 'Werkplaatsconcerten'. They are meant for organ students, who decide themselves what works will be performed, and how they will present it. This also means the scheduled performance can change on the last minute.
Admission for these concerts is free.
The Orgelpark is located at Gerard Brandtstraat 26, between Overtoom and Vondelpark (counting from Leidseplein, it is the 5th street to the left on Overtoom).
