With the opera 'After Life' by the Dutch composer Michel van der Aa the yearly Holland Festival will be opened on Friday evening.
The performance will take place in the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, and be attended by HRH Queen Beatrix.
The festival is a series of performances in various theaters throughout Amsterdam, lasting until June 25.
This year's theme of the 59th edition of the festival is Melancholia & Hysteria. The festival will have works by Shostakovitch, Birtwistle, Mozart, and many others.
The Rijksmuseum will also take part. Rembrandts ‘The Nightwatch’ will be brought alive by director Peter Greenaway in a theatrical presentation.
