Oldest children's playground saved

The oldest children's playground of Amsterdam (U.J. Klaren) will not have to make way for a parking garage.

The playground is located at the 2e Weteringplantsoen in the centre of Amsterdam, near the De Pijp neighbourhood.
It has been in existence for 125 years, but a new parking garage was to be built on its location.
After many protests, the plans for the parking garage have been changed.

The playground is named after Mr Uilke Jans Klaren, a 19th century socialist and unionist, and initiator in 1898 of the playground movement in the Netherlands. He set up the playground that is now named after him.
