Amsterdam has a new attraction: the permanent exhibition 'Rembrandt, All his paintings'.
The exhibition shows digitally remastered reproductions of all Rembrandt's paintings. The original versions are spread all over the world, in many museums and private collections.
Currently, 325 paintings have been attributed to Rembrandt. This number varies, depending on when you ask, and who you ask. To really prove whether a painting was made by Rembrandt is not always easy, and insights have changed over time.
Professor Ernst van de Wetering has set up the exhibition.
He is also the current leader of the famous Rembrandt Research Project, which endeavours to study Rembrandt's work since 1968.
The paintings have been digitally remastered, which means that all works have been brought back to its original splendour, including missing parts.
The painting the Nachtwacht (the Nightwatch) can also be seen in full size, including the part that has been cut off centuries ago.
The exhibition is located in the basement of the Magna Plaza shopping mall, just behind the Royal Palace on Dam Square.
The address is Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 182.
The project is completely commercial. Similar exhibitions about Rembrandt were a success, in 2006 and 2009, so that this project could now be financed without subsidies by the government or the city of Amsterdam.
More information can be found on their website.
(In Dutch only at the moment, the English version is on its way. Information at the exhibition itself is in Dutch and in English)
