The gas price in the Netherlands is the highest of the world.
With a price of E 1.48 per liter (which is about E 5.6 per gallon, or USD 7 per gallon), the gas price in Holland surpasses the gas price in other European countries.
Gas has always been expensive in Holland, but this year the price has gone up with about 15%. Most of the price consists of government taxes.
The high gas price has not stopped people from using their cars: gas consumption went up 2.7% compared to last year in the Netherlands.
Because of the effects of hurricane Katrina on the oil market, a further rise of gas prices is expected.
