Mayor of Amsterdam supports Moscow gay pride parade

The mayor of Amsterdam, Mr Job Cohen, has asked his colleague in Moscow (mr Loezjkov) to allow the gay pride parade in his city.

At the moment, the parade is forbidden in Moscow. The mayors of Berlin, London and Paris have also asked the mayor of Moscow to change his decision.

In a letter to the mr Loezjkov, Cohen says that 'a mayor is only a real mayor if he supports all citizens of the city. The smaller a group, the more protection they deserve by the authorities, in a safe environment'.

Particularly religious organizations in Russia have protested agains the parade (Russian-orthodox, Jewish and Muslim organizations).
