Maximum fine for UberPop raised to Eur 1 million

The maximum fine for illegal taxi services has been raised from Eur 100,000 to E 1 million.

For each illegal taxi driver who gets caught working for UberPop, the company has to pay a fine of E 50,000. The maximum fine is E 1 million.

Taxi drivers can also get fined themselves. This fine is E 4,200, and can grow to E 10,000. Uber has always said it will pay these fines for the drivers.

The UberPop service is illegal in the Netherlands because the taxi drivers need a license, which they don't have, and there are other laws they don't comply with.
