On Thursday afternoon a fire broke out in Amsterdam North.
Big black clouds of smoke could be seen from far away. The fire broke out in a furniture store, and spread to several neighbouring stores.
Because it was unclear whether the smoke was toxic, a part of the neighbourhood was evacuated. 39 People were injured by breathing smoke, some had to be treated in hospital.
The fire is under control, but some people will have to spend the night in the Navy complex near the Maritime museum in the centre of Amsterdam until the neighbourhood is cleared.
