This statue was erected (in 1952) in honour of the Amsterdammers who stood up against the violence against Jews by the Nazi occupying forces, with a general strike, starting on February 25, 1941.
The February Strike is commemorated every year February 25, with a ceremony at the Dokwerker statue.
