Cycling is one of the most effective and popular ways to move around Amsterdam. Within the ring road A10 it is the fastest and most-used way of transportation through the city.
There are several companies in the centre of Amsterdam that rent bikes to tourists. Or, you can take part in a guided bicycle tour.
In the heart of the city you're probably better off walking, as traffic in the inner city of Amsterdam is usually busy, chaotic and crowded. There are, however, several destinations that are perfectly reachable by bike.
An ideal map for cycling in and around Amsterdam is the map called 'Stadsregio Amsterdam op de fiets' (= 'Amsterdam region by bike'). It shows Amsterdam, plus the wide region around it, including the beach, several near-by picturesque towns and tourist attractions that are close to Amsterdam.
A good map that displays Amsterdam only is called 'Amsterdam op de fiets'.
The maps are for sale in bookstores, tourist offices or in map stores.
