The COC Amsterdam (the oldest gay movement organization in the Netherlands) has been saved by a subsidy by the city of Amsterdam.
COC Amsterdam was almost bankrupt a few months ago, and had sounded the alarm bells because of this. Benefit parties were organized, but these didn't yield the required amount of money.
The city of Amsterdam has now given E 150,000 to save the organization from bankruptcy.
The COC will stop the well-known Friday evening disco parties, and will also not organize other parties any more, as the parties were not profitable.
More attention will be paid to education (on schools), improvement of safety of gay people, and care for gay youths who are struggling with their coming out.
