The Stadsarchief (City Archives) published this animation on its Youtube channel. It shows the growth of Amsterdam in the 19th century, in a few minutes.
You can see how the Rijksmuseum and the Concertgebouw were built in an area that was then out of town, in agricultural land. Nowadays, this area (Museumplein district) is in the centre of Amsterdam.
