The City of Amsterdam calls upon everyone in Amsterdam to take part in a demonstration it organizes Thursday evening at 6pm.
The demonstration is meant to support the victims of the attack on the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris, earlier today.
The City says it is shocked by the event, and quotes the Mayor :
'An attack on a cartoonist/journalist is an attack on the freedom of opinion. And that is an attack on freedom in general, therefore on all of us. Furthermore, this is an attack on the police.
This is all upsetting, as especially journalists and police officers defend freedom in our society.' (translation by Simply Amsterdam).
The demonstration is (probably) to start at the French Consulate (at Vijzelgracht 2, see map), at 6pm. At 6.15pm the march will go to Dam Square.
More details will follow tomorrow.
Update January 8: the Prime Minister (Mark Rutte) will speak at the manifestation on Dam Square. The demonstration will start at 6pm at the French Consulate ((at Vijzelgracht 2, see map). Dam Square will be reached about 7pm.
The Mayor of Amsterdam will also speak on Dam Square.
The march will go to Dam Square.
