Amsterdam hotel robbed, Damrak closed off

An Amsterdam hotel, the Oranje Tulp Hotel, was the victim of a robbery this morning, around 6.30 am.

All hotel guests were evacuated, and the street was blocked off. A police helicopter flew above the crime scene for a while.

Police thought the robber(s) could still be in the hotel, but couldn't find them.

The hotel guests were offered accommodation in another hotel, close by.

Around 9am, the street blockade was lifted. It is unclear yet how the robbery took place, and whether the robbers could steal anything.
