The Vondelpark, Amsterdams most famous park, has been officially re-opened after a renovation that took 10 years.
The most important problem to solve was the drainage problem. Trees fell down, grass fields turned into mud pools and pond sides came down as well.
To improve the situation, a drainage system has been installed, paths have been raised and the old trees have received a better foundation.
In addition, many buildings in the park have been renovated, and also old park entrance gates have been restored in their original splendour. The statue of the poet Vondel has been restored as well.
The renovation of the park cost E 26 million.
