Sunday October 16 is the 36th edition of the Amsterdam Marathon.
Last year 31,500 runners took part, this year there will be 35,000 participants. 10,000 of them will run the marathon.
The growing popularity of the Amsterdam Marathon comes partly from abroad: 13,500 of the participants are from outside the Netherlands.
The marathon will start and finish in the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium from 1928, in Amsterdam South. The track goes through Amsterdam South, along the river Amstel, Amsterdam East and then back to Amsterdam South along Leidseplein square and through the Vondelpark (the marathon will not go through the old centre of Amsterdam).
