Mayor Job Cohen opened the first escalators in the Arena Stadium in Amsterdam today.
The escalator stairs lead to the second ring of the stadium.
Climbing the stairs proved to be too difficult for many elderly people or people with physical restrictions.
By 2006 five more escalators and 2 elevators will have become operational.
