Westerkerk tower closed for renovation

As of today, the famous church tower of the Westerkerk will be closed for 14 months for an extensive maintenance operation.

The tower (with 90 meter the highest church tower in Amsterdam) was built in 1638.

Various materials on the inside and outside need renovation. Parts of the outside structure will be restored to its original colour.

During the renovation the tower can not be climbed, but the church will remain open.

The church is located in the Jordaan area, almost next to the Anne Frank House.
The tower is scheduled to re-open by Easter 2007.
