The Waag building is one of the most beautiful old monuments in the centre of Amsterdam, situated on Nieuwmarkt square.
It was built as an entrance arch to the city, it was then named the Sint Anthoniespoort.
The building later functioned as a weighing building (hence the current name 'De Waag'), a firebrigade station, the city archive, and also the Amsterdam Museum and the Jewish Historical Museum were once housed here.
Nowadays, the Waag is a restaurant/lunch room with an outdoor cafe, and can be visited every day.
