The Vondelpark is a classic 19th century park in Amsterdam, just South of the city centre.
It attracts millions of visitors per year, and is the most popular park in Amsterdam, with tourists as well as with residents.
In the 1960s the park became famous for the Vondelpark sleepers, hippies who would camp out in the park. Since this got out of hand, sleeping in the park is now forbidden.
In the Vondelpark you'll find a few cafes, where you can sit outside.
Well-known is also the Vondelpark Openluchttheater, an open-air theater which schedules free performances every year during the summer period.
- Barbecuing is allowed in designated areas. You risk a fine outside these areas.
- Cycling is allowed throughout the park
The Vondelpark can get very crowded in the park season. If you're looking for a quieter, less touristy park, Amsterdam has some other parks to offer.
