The Van Gogh Museum revealed a newly recognized work by Vincent van Gogh today: Zonsondergang bij Montmajour (Sunset at Montmajour).
The work was found in a private collection, the owner of which wishes to remain anonymous.
The work had been marked as false by the Van Gogh Museum in the 1990's, but now it attributes the work to Van Gogh.
In 2011 the family took the painting (again) to the Van Gogh Museum, to have it researched.
The museum took 2 years to establish it is an authentic painting by Vincent van Gogh.
The painting was probably made on July 4, 1888 (based on one of Van Gogh's own letter).
The painting will be on loan for the public to see in the Van Gogh Museum, from September 24, for one year.
