The University of Amsterdam (http://www.uva.nl) ranks 49 in the 2009 list of best 200 universities, published in the Times Higher Education Supplement.
The list is an authorative list, published every year.
As usual, the top 20 of the list is dominated by universities from the UK and the US.

The University of Amsterdam is one of the two universities in Amsterdam. It is the largest and the oldest. It started in 1632 as the Athenauem Illustre.
Of the total list of 200 best universities, 11 are in the Netherlands.
