Whereas Amsterdam is the biggest and most beautiful example of a historic, 17th century city, it certainly is not the only town worth visiting.
Nearby are various bigger and smaller towns, with historic centers, that are worth visiting. Each have their own character and special attractions. Often (but not always!) they are less touristy, and they show you more of the 'real' Holland.
