Tourist tax Amsterdam increases with half a percent

Amsterdam has decided to increase the tourist tax with 0.5 percent, from 5% to 5.5%.

Tourist tax is paid by all tourists who stay in a hotel or a registered apartment or bed and breakfast.

The measure is temporary, says the city - the extra half percent is only levied in 2013 and 2014, then it goes back to 5%.
