Today is the start of the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, the IDFA.
The festival will last until November 29.
There will be 319 documentaries, shown on 12 locations.
De main locations of the festival are Pathé Tuschinski, Pathé de Munt, EYE and de Brakke Grond. Café de Jaren is the festival café.
Tuschinski is generally known as one of the most beautiful cinemas in Amsterdam, because of its lush art deco interior. The EYE film institute is also worth visiting. The new building of the EYE, across the IJ river at the back of the Central Station has become an iconic landmark building.
The festival is an annual event, that attracts about 250,000 visitors. With the attacks in Paris in mind, the general safety measures have been stepped up, but the organization can't say what these measures are.
