The Woordenboek der Nederlandsche Taal (WNT) is now online, for free.
The dictionary (Dutch only) is the biggest dictionary in the world: it has about 400,000 words, and the printed version has about 45,000 pages.
The dictionary covers the Dutch language as used from 1500 to 1921; words like computer, cd-rom, etc. will be looked up in vain. For visitors, the dictionary will be of limited use. Not only are words created after 1921 not covered, the dictionary and its website is in Dutch only.
The dictionary was started in 1852 and finished in 1998. The dictionary also contains dialect maps and encyclopaedic information with pictures.
Since its launch yesterday, the dictionary can not be consulted, due to the massive number of people trying to log in.
