Statue of prostitute in Amsterdam Red Light District unveiled in March

The city of Amsterdam has given a license to place a bronze statue of a prostitute.

The statue is an initiative of Mariska Majoor of the Prostitutie Informatie Centrum.
The statue is a tribute to all prostitutes worldwide, according to Majoor. The statue is meant to pay respect to 'all the thousands of men and women who make their money with this age old profession'.
According to Majoor, Amsterdam will be the first city in the world with a statue for prostitutes.

It will be placed on the Oudekerksplein, in front of the Old Church, in the heart of the Red Light District.

At the unveiling, scheduled for the end of March, the statue's name will also be made public.
