This was made known by the European Museum Forum last night.
The museum received the price for the beautiful result of the renovation (the Rijksmuseum re-opened in 2013, after a decade long renovation). The Forum was very content with the way the museum guides the many visitors through the building, and also the information provided in many languages.
The Asian Pavillion was mentioned as a good example of restoration, and the elegant way the many important works of art were presented to the public.
There were 42 nominees for the prize. THe prize has been awarded since 1977. The European Museum Forum is part of the Council of Europe, which has 47 member states (it is something entirely different than the European Union).
