This statue of the painter Rembrandt van Rijn was placed in 2011, in front of the Amstel Hotel. It was made by Wim van Hoorn in 1968.

Its placement was to announce a walking route, named Rembrandtpad, along the shores of the river Amstel. This was one of Rembrandt's favourite walks, and several of his landscapes originate here.
The Rembrandtpad foundation announced the erection of several more Rembrandt statues along the route.
However, after the placement of this statue, the Rembrandtpad foundation appears to have disappeared.
