The statues on Rembrandtplein square, representing the famous painting 'The Nightwatch' by Rembrandt, will stay there for at least one more year.
The bronze statues were placed on the occasion of the Rembrandt 400 year, commemorating Rembrandt's 400th birthday.
The statue group, consisting of the characters in the painting, proved to be a tourist attraction on its own, and the businesses around the square decided they would like the statues to remain on the square.
They have now collected E 75,000 to rent the statues for one more year. At the end of the year they will try and see whether the statues can be kept permanently.
