On street parking rates Amsterdam centre up 30 percent

Although most on-street parking rates do not change next year in Amsterdam, or not very much, this is different for the old centre: the hourly rate goes from E 3.40 to E 4.40.

The new rates start on January 1, and apply to a part of the centre of Amsterdam, mainly around Central Station, Dam Square, Red Light District and Nieuwmarkt Square.
In most other parts of Amsterdam the parking rates do not change, also not in the public car parks.

The increase of the rates is intended to keep the inner city reachable and generally discourage car traffic in the old centre of Amsterdam.
