Neighbourhood 'de Baarsjes' has today installed the first traffic sign indicating a prohibition of on-street smoking of marihuana.
The prohibition was passed to reduce the hanging around of groups of youths in the neighbourhood.
Smoking of marihuana is now fined with EUR 50.- in various streets off the Mercatorplein Square, which is located in de Baarsjes, a neighbourhood in Amsterdam West.
A special new traffic sign was developed for the prohibition.
