COC Amsterdam, the oldest gay organization in the Netherlands, is in severe financial trouble.
The city of Amsterdam has ended the subsidies for the organization, and now it has to find its own funds. At present, it is in need of E 200,000 to survive, otherwise it will its doors on March 21.
The COC organization is 60 years old, and started in Amsterdam. On February 23 there is a fund-raising evening (website in Dutch), in the building of COC Amsterdam, located at Rozenstraat 14.
The COC is the world's oldest gay organization still in existence. It was set up 7 December 1946 in Amsterdam, as the 'Shakespeare Club', later 'Cultuur en Ontspanning Centrum' (COC).
