No outdoor beer taps in Amsterdam during world soccer championship

Cafes in Amsterdam will not be allowed to place beer taps or large tv screens out on the streets during the world soccer championship, to be held in Germany from June 9 to July 9.

This has been decided by the mayor of Amsterdam. He fears that the outdoor beer taps will attract groups of soccer fans, which may disturb the public order.
Cafe owners had also asked to have longer opening hours the championship, but this will also not be allowed by the city.

The cafe owners regret the measure, and say they had wanted to hire private guards to prevent problems.
