New Year's count down 2015/2016 in Amsterdam again on Oosterdok

The national New Year's countdown will again be held on Oosterdok, the water just East of the Central Station, in front of the Maritime Museum (Scheepvaartmuseum).

On this location there will be a grand firework, and the admission is free. The same location has been used in the past few years, so it can be called a tradition. The number of spectators that are expected is around 10,000.
The firework will be broadcast on national tv.

Threat of terrorism?
Unlike the large festivities in Brussels, there are no cancelled festivities in Amsterdam. There has been a general warning for police to watch out for possible terrorist threats, but there is no concrete sign of danger.

Traditionally, the main squares in Amsterdam fill with people with the new year approaching. Particularly Nieuwmarkt square and Leidseplein are famous for this, but also on Dam Square a lot of people will gather.
There will be firework all over town, but no large firework shows other than the one mentioned above.

Please note: between 8pm and 1.30am there will be no public transport anywhere in the Netherlands. There are also no trains.
The ferry between Central Station and Buiksloterweg in Amsterdam North will keep on going.
