National Slavery Monument

National Slavery Monument

The official Slavery Monument commemorating the abolishment of slavery in Holland is located in the Amsterdam Oosterpark.
The monument was reveiled by HRH Queen Beatrix in 2002, and was created by the Surinamese artist Erwin de Vries.

Every year on July 1 there is a ceremeny at the monument (because in the Dutch Kingdom, slavery was abolished officially on July 1, 1863).
