Tuesday evening a man drowned in the pond in the Oosterpark, located in Amsterdam East, after cycling into it.
Bystanders have seen him go into the pond, swim around for a bit and wave to people. Then he went under, and because he didn't come up any more the emergency services were alarmed.
A diving team of the fire brigade found the man, who died later in hospital.
The police are investigating the incident.
